Work try-out

Municipality of Hollola

To find out about career choices and career options, you can get to know the world of work through a work try-out. A work try-out can also help you return to work after a long break.
A work try-out can be related to the career field you want to pursue or you can do it in a field you are not familiar with yet. In this case, the try-out can be arranged in a workshop where you can try out different types of tasks.
A work try-out is not employment, and it does not create expenses for the organiser. During the work try-out, you are entitled to the same unemployment security as when you are unemployed. If you have agreed to a work try-out in your employment plan or a plan replacing it, your unemployment security can be increased. This will be decided by the party paying the unemployment benefit – that is, by the unemployment fund or Kela.
You may apply for an expense allowance for the duration of the labour market training. If you don’t receive expense allowance from the payer of the unemployment benefit, Päijät-Häme Employment Services can pay a discretionary expense allowance.
You agree on the length of the work try-out (maximum six months), weekly working days (1–5) and daily working hours (4–8 hours) with an expert of the Päijät-Häme Employment Services and the organiser of the try-out. Your goals will be taken into account when these are agreed.
Acceptance for a work try-out does not require unemployment of any duration. You may be accepted for a work try-out if you are a job seeker registered with the Päijät-Häme Employment Services. Your vocational training or level of education will not affect the organisation of the work try-out. If you have no vocational training, the work try-out will be mainly aimed at finding a suitable education or training option.
A work try-out may be organised by a company, entrepreneur, municipality, joint municipal authority, other corporation, foundation or government agency or institution. A private individual may not act as the organiser of a work try-out. A workshop may organise a work try-out when it can provide it in a genuine work environment.
