Omaolo is intended for permanent Finnish residents over the age of 15 and for residents entitled to public social and health services. This symptom checker is intended for women aged 18 to 75 because it is based on research data collected from that age group.
Omaolo is not intended for emergencies such as acute and severe chest pain or shortness of breath, unconsciousness, convulsions, heavy bleeding and severe injuries. In an emergency, call 112.

Omaolo.fi is an electronic service channel for social welfare and health care whose purpose is to assess a resident’s need for care and the urgency of the matter in the following situations:
• assessment of an individual health problem or several symptoms
• assessment of health and well-being
• assessment of an illness or its risks
and guiding the resident to receive treatment in services promoting health and well-being within Omaolo and in social and health services external to Omaolo.
The contents of the Omaolo service are based on medical information and research, validated questions and, with regard to social welfare, criteria laid down in legislation on the right to social services. The personalised instructions in symptom assessments are based on the Decision Support engine with its accessories, produced by Duodecim Publishing Company Ltd. The service analyses the user's answers and uses the available information to make the feedback as personal as possible. Combined with electronic appointment booking, the user can be offered digital service chains. The aim is to guide the user to an appropriate service as easily as possible.
Omaolo is intended for residents over the age of 15. Some of the health and well-being assessments are intended for those under the age of 15. Omaolo is used by health care and social welfare professionals when they take part in the treatment of a resident who uses Omaolo, and to promote health and well-being. Omaolo is not intended for use in life-threatening situations.
